Re: Inhibitory mechanism of fructose
Dear Zheng
There is a number of plant species in which fructose alone can not
support growth under in vitro conditions. One of them is Ceratonia
siliqua. Shoot cultures of this species grow on glucose but not on
fructose as the only carbohydrate source in media. We believe that in
this (and other) systems fructose is not inhibitory but it can not
replace sucrose in the same way as glucose.
