Position open for Research Specialist/Senior Research Specialist to join 
our group working on cereal genomics and genetic engineering.  Position 
descriptions, duties, and requirements are given below for each level.  
We are hoping to fill the position as soon as possible, therefore

Title:  RESEARCH SPECIALIST

Degree Requirements:    B.S. with experience, or M.S. in plant science or 
related field

Experience Requirements:  Minimum of 1 year experience.  Experience in 
greenhouse propagation of plants, and plant cell culture required.  
Experience in pollination of maize or other cereal monocot plants 
preferred.  Experience in PCR, Southern blotting, DNA cloning 
techniques, Agrobacterium transformation of monocots, particle gun 
transformation of monocots, and experimental design is desired.

Principle Duties:  Emphasis of research is on tissue culture and 
transformation of maize.  Research specialist will have primary 
responsibility for greenhouse propagation of embryo donor plants and 
transgenic plants, regeneration of transgenic plants, and maintainance 
of tissue cultures.  Research Specialist will assist in transgenic plant 
production, media and solution preparation, and supervision of hourly 
assistants working in the greenhouse and laboratory.  Research 
Specialist is expected to train hourly students in laboratory safety and 
procedures, analyze routine data and generate reports, assist in 
laboratory management and organization, and work as part of the research 
program team.

Appointment:  Full time, and renewable on a yearly basis

Salary:  minimum $26,000  annual (12 mo.), higher depending on 
qualifications


Title:  SENIOR RESEARCH SPECIALIST

Degree Requirements:  B.S. with experience, or M.S. in plant science or 
related field

Experience:  Minimum of 4 years experience.  Experience in production of 
transgenic maize plants and seed using Agrobacterium required.  
Expertise in construction of vector constructs, and PCR and Southern 
blot analysis of transgenic plants also required.  Demonstrated 
experience in designing and conducting independent research experiments 
using transgenic plants to analyze genetic systems is preferred.  
Experience with reverse-genetic analysis in plants is desired.

Principle Duties:  Emphasis of research is on tissue culture and 
transformation of maize.  Senior Research Specialist will have primary 
responsibility for production of transgenic maize plants and progeny 
containing constructs identified by PIs.  Senior Research Specialist 
will assist in molecular analysis of transgenic plants and progeny.  
Senior  Research Specialist is expected to train hourly students in 
laboratory safety and procedures, analyze routine data and generate 
reports, assist in laboratory management and organization, and work as 
part of the research program team.

Appointment:  Full time, and renewable on a yearly basis

Salary:  minimum $29,564  annual (12 mo.), higher depending on 
qualifications
