hairy root transformation

Dear TC researchers,
I recently inoculated some carrots (both slices of carrot tissue and
whole plants) with Agrobacterium rhizogenes to induce hairy root. I was
wondering if anyone had a "quick and dirty" test, besides observation of
the hairy root phenotype, for confirming whether plant roots have been
transformed to hairy root after inoculation with Agrobacterium
rhizogenes. For example, if I extract DNA from both transformed and
non-transformed roots, perform a restriction digest, and run the DNA on
a gel, I'm assuming that the band patterns between the two will look
quite different. I've also heard of tests to discern the presence of
agropine, nopaline and other opines in transformed tissue. Any
information that anyone has regarding these or other tests to confirm
hairy root transformation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very
much.
